Abstract

Abstract

In this research article, its author presents materials of his new scientific research, dedicated to the presentation of new, thematic, philatelic materials (postage stamps, postal envelopes and blocks), as well as a number of numismatic materials (commemorative medals), not presented by him earlier, in his past research works, and dedicated to the problem of diabetes and the presentation of information about a number of heroes in the fight against it.

Aim of the article

The purpose of this research article is to present and describe completely new philatelic and numismatic materials obtained by the author as a result of his search work on the Internet, which have never been presented before, thematically devoted to the problem of such a formidable endocrinological disease as diabetes mellitus, as well as to present new collection materials about the heroic researchers who were involved in the treatment of diabetes mellitus and the creation of insulin by them.

Hypothesis of the article

During the preparation period for this study, its author put forward the following working hypothesis, the essence of which is as follows - despite the already sufficiently informative presentation of the problem of diabetes, both in special collection publications and in other scientific research environments, materials on diabetes, in the reflection of various means of collecting, nevertheless, new and new ones constantly appear, not presented anywhere before.

Method and materials of the study

In writing this research article, its author used such a research method as literary-critical analysis of other available sources of information on the issue being studied. Also, the author of this research article studied available Internet sites and thematic pages of collectors of different directions, but - first of all, philatelists and numismatists specializing in medical issues and. endocrinological diseases, in particular. All the results obtained as a result of the author's search were analyzed, systematized, described, and transformed, using a special computer program, into their screenshot copies.

Introduction

The study of issues related to medicine, its history and heroes, scientists and practitioners, in any of the medical fields, is always a relevant and popular issue. In fairness, it should be noted that earlier, the author of this article published other articles related to diabetes and the heroes of the fight against it. But the collection industry, in all its varieties and diversity, constantly releases a wide variety of materials that have not been presented before. In the process of conducting his research, the author found on the Internet a wonderful and informative collage with portraits of four main heroes of the discovery and synthesis of insulin, and its practical testing in clinical conditions [1, 45, 48]. These are portraits of Frederick Banting, Charles Herbert Best, Dr. James Bertram Collip and John J.R. MacLeod| Macleod, which will be discussed in this author's research article, with a presentation of a wide variety of collection materials about them.

And under this collage, a color maximum card of Canada (2021-2022) is presented, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the discovery of insulin, with portraits and brief biographical data of these same four discoverers of insulin, which saved millions of human lives, both adults and children, suffering from diabetes, both type 1 and type 2 [2].

Results of the study and discussion

To begin my presentation of the thematic philatelic materials obtained by the author for this article, I would like to present, in Figure 3, a large philatelic selection (postage stamps, artistic stamped envelopes and first day covers, postal blocks) from different countries of the world, which bear on their front side (obverse), portraits of those scientists and researchers who were involved in the epochal discovery of a cure for diabetes - insulin. These are portraits of Frederick Banting (1891-1941), Charles Herbert Best (1899-1978) and John J.R. MacLeod|Macleod (1878-1935) and their joint and their, different-subject images [3-31, 48].

The following thematic figure 6 presents a new philatelic collection dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of diabetes, primarily in children. This is a postage stamp of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau (2022) and the State of Liberia (2022), which depict children with type 1 diabetes who inject themselves with insulin, as well as the 100th anniversary of the world's first insulin injection for therapeutic purposes [32-35, 47]

Figure 7 shows a large philatelic collection dedicated to various practical aspects of the fight against diabetes, including its diagnosis and treatment [36-39? 46]

Conclusions

  1. The author of this research article has presented both the text and illustrative parts in sufficient detail.
  2. The use of numerous, bright, accessible and appropriate illustrations in this research article has significantly decorated, supplemented and enriched this article.
  3. The new informative and illustrative materials presented by the author of the article contain new, interesting information concerning the issue of the discovery of insulin, diagnostics, treatment and prevention of diabetes mellitus, both in adults and children, both types 1 and 2.
  4. The presented author's research article undoubtedly has significant scientific research interest and will undoubtedly be valuable for the medical community, as well as for philatelist collectors and numismatists.

This concludes another author's research article devoted to various aspects of diabetes mellitus in adults and children. The author of this article is preparing for publication materials from his new research, thematically related to the issues of reflecting different areas of medicine in different means of collecting.
