Abstract

The article presents the materials of the author's research, devoted to the reflection, in such a means of collecting as phaleristics, of information about surgeons, surgery, as well as about a number of different surgical and medical instruments. Numerous screenshot copies of these collection materials are presented, and additional, brief information about them, in collections of thematic badges, chest badges and brooches, supplemented by both color and black-and-white illustrations - screenshot copies, on this topic of research. In total, this article presents 78 screenshot copies of phaleristic materials, including: 5 commemorative orders; 6 commemorative medals; 10 chest badges; 52 thematic badges; 5 thematic jewelry brooches.

Aim of the article 

The purpose of this article, conducted by the author of the study, is to present the results obtained by the author of the study, and their analysis, in the reflection of a number of such means of collecting as phaleristics, in the reflection of thematic badges, chest badges and brooches dedicated to surgery, surgeons, surgical instruments, and also to present the volume of these collection materials, on the subject of this study. Research of the hypothesis article: During the preparation for this thematic study, its author put forward the following working hypothesis for the study: there is a fairly large number of various phaleristic materials in the form of thematic badges, chest and award badges, jewelry brooches made of different metals and/or their alloys, thematically dedicated to both surgery and various surgical instruments.

Introduction

The study of any materials of the conducted research, concerning all sections of medicine, its directions, history and heroes, is always very relevant and in demand! This directly concerns surgery, all its directions, history and heroes, both scientists and practical doctors, especially in the direct reflection of any means of collecting and, in particular, in such as phaleristics - on orders, medals, chest and award badges and tokens, thematic badges and brooches. This and also, plus - the image of various surgical instruments, was the direct object of the author of this research article, presented to the judgment of the esteemed readers.

Material and research methods

the method of literary-critical analysis, when working with all the text and illustrative materials found on the Internet. Samples of collection materials found on Internet pages and thematic sites of phalerist collectors were selected, grouped and, using a special computer program, converted into black-and-white and color screenshot copies. All of them have a brief accompanying explanation-description and, in a strictly mandatory manner, the IP address is indicated, the places of its borrowing on the Internet, for strict observance of copyright, their owners on the Internet. Later, when preparing the text of this article, the author used the screenshot copies available to him as accompanying illustrations to the text.

Results and discussion

I would like to begin my presentation of various phaleristic collection items dedicated to surgery and surgeons, as well as surgical instruments, discovered during an Internet search, with a presentation of phaleristic materials dedicated to famous surgeons from different countries and different time periods. Thus, at the beginning, in Figure 1, a phaleristic selection is presented (memorable Russian medals and orders, award and commemorative tokens, thematic badges) dedicated to the memory of the great Russian surgeon/military field surgeon, anatomist - Nikolai Ivanovich Pirogov (1810-1881) [1-8].

Further, in Figure 2, a small selection (thematic commemorative badges) is presented, dedicated to the memory of the famous Russian surgeon/military field surgeon, A.V. Vishnevsky (1874-1948) [1, 27, 28].

Further, in thematic figure 3, a selection of commemorative badges is presented, with images on their front side of portraits of famous Russian surgeons: S.I. Spasokukotsky (1870-1943); I.F. Bush (1771-1843); S.P. Fedorov (1869-1936) [29-31].

Figure 4 presents phaleristic materials dedicated to the memory of the Ukrainian and world-famous cardiac surgeon – Nikolai Mikhailovich Amosov (1913-2002) [1, 32, 33].

Further, in Figure 5, a thematic phaleristic selection of commemorative badges dedicated to issues of pediatric surgery is presented [12-19].

In addition to the presented collection materials, in thematic figure 6, we would like to present phaleristic materials in the form of commemorative badges and signs, mainly from the USSR period and, partially, foreign [1, 20]. Most often, a surgical scalpel is presented on commemorative badges as a symbol of surgery, as well as surgical needles and clamps.

And, in conclusion of this article, Figure 7 shows a selection of jewelry brooches dedicated to surgery and the medical, surgical instrument – ​​the scalpel [34-38].

This concludes another authorial, thematic, research article devoted to the reflection in phaleristics, surgery and surgeons. The author is preparing for publication another new article, based on the materials of his research, the reflection of surgery, a number of domestic and foreign surgeons, medical and surgical instruments in numismatics - on commemorative coins and medals of different countries of the world.

Conclusions 

  1. This article presents the results of the conducted research concerning the study of the prevalence and reflection of information about surgery, the performance 
  2. of surgical interventions and surgical instruments, in the reflection of such a means of collecting as phaleristics. 
  3. Reflection in the means of collecting the history of medicine is a very relevant and popular means of presenting information, both for different groups of medical workers and for all collectors who are keen on collecting data on medicine and its history. 
  4. In total, this article presents 78 screenshot copies of phaleristic materials, including: 5 copies of commemorative orders; 6 copies of commemorative medals; 10 copies of chest badges; 52 copies of thematic badges; 5 copies of jewelry thematic brooches.
