Summary
A case is described of a 49-year-old male with chronic constipation.
The man hah had no bowel movement for 4 days and an obstruction as a cause for chronic constipation had been ruled out.
All methods of laxatives including fleet enemas had been tried and eventually an enteroclysis was done.
A nasogastic tube was inserted under vision directly into the small bowel / duodenum.
4 litres of luke-warm saline was infused via the naso-gastric tube into the patient.
Within 40 minutes watery faeces began to pour from the anus of the chronically constipated individual.
This is a slightly unconventional but successful way of treating chronic constipation when all other methods of treatment have failed!
